Crowns and bridges

in Drayton

As a family dental practice in Drayton near Hellesdon and Taverham, we aim to improve the dental health and wellbeing of patients of all ages and this includes the way our mouth and teeth perform. When our mouths work well, we often take them for granted but the moment we have a problem, we realise just how vital a healthy mouth is for everything from eating, speaking and smiling, to our sense of wellbeing. Our modern approach to dentistry allows you to live your life to the full.

Teeth are precious commodities. They give our face its structure; they allow us to eat, whistle, speak, chew, smile and feel confident about ourselves. That’s why we will always try to save and restore your natural teeth. Treatment for restoring your mouth’s function includes crowns, bridges, fillings, inlays and onlays, and dentures.

Your crowns and bridges treatment journey

What happens when you need a crown or bridge?
Let’s take a look…

  • 1. Your first appointment

After ensuring you are relaxed and comfortable, your dentist will first use a local anaesthetic to numb the area to ensure that you won’t feel a thing during your treatment. Your dentist will then remove any tooth decay using a dental drill… this might be noisy but we promise it won’t hurt at all. We will then take an impression or digital scan of your tooth and send it to our dental laboratory who will create your crown or bridge. In the meantime, we will place a temporary crown to protect your tooth.

  • 2. Your second appointment

Once your crown or bridge has returned to us from the dental laboratory, you will come back so that your dentist can remove the temporary crown and permanently fit your new restoration.

  • 3. Regular dental health reviews

It is important to attend your regular dental health reviews so that we can ensure the health of your new crown and check the rest of your teeth and gums.

        Dental crowns

When a tooth has become decayed or damaged a dental crown is one option to restore it. White fillings and inlays or onlays are alternative treatments, but these solutions are only possible if the decay or damage is not too extensive. In cases where fillings, inlays or onlays are not sufficient to restore the tooth, dental crowns are a good solution.

First of all, your dentist will remove all the decay or damage from the affected tooth, which will leave just a post. This will be strong and secure enough to hold your new dental crown in place and act as a replacement tooth. We work closely with our dental laboratory who will craft your dental crown, ensuring the shape and shade are a close match for your smile. The final result will be extremely aesthetic to ensure you can smile with confidence, but also strong enough to allow you to eat as normal once again.

Crowns at Drayton Dental Care can be used to:

        • Strengthen teeth that have been weakened by decay or a large filling

        • Protect fractured, cracked and worn teeth

        • Improve the shape, alignment and shade of a tooth

        • Help strengthen the tooth after root canal treatment

        Dental bridges

If you have a missing tooth, or there is not enough healthy tooth structure left to securely hold a crown in place, we can use a dental bridge instead. In these cases, we can attach a replacement tooth to a crown on either side… creating a bridge!

If you have a missing tooth, it can cause problems with eating and speech, as well as embarrassment about your appearance. In addition, when you have a missing tooth the teeth on either side of the gap can begin to move into the extra space, which can cause issues with your bite. This is why at Drayton Dental Care we aim to work with our patients to find the best solutions for their overall dental health.

We wouldn’t like to leave you with a gap in your smile so we will discuss all available options with you. In some cases, dental implants may be a suitable solution, but a dental bridge can be a cost-effective alternative if there is enough healthy tooth structure in place.

Bridges at Drayton Dental Care aim to:

        • Replace the gaps left by missing teeth

        • Improve your ability to eat and chew

        • Stop your teeth from drifting into the gaps left by missing teeth
