At its core, National Smile Month is about learning what you can do to have a clean and healthy mouth – something that is incredibly important to your dentists at Drayton Dental Care in School Road.
Your journey towards good oral health starts with brushing your teeth. It’s so simple. Twice daily toothbrushing is the most important thing you can do for your smile.
That’s why, as part of National Smile Month, which runs until June 18, organisers the Oral Health Foundation has joined with GSK and Corsodyl to create a digital guide for better brushing. National Smile Month supports millions of people in developing and maintaining a healthy smile.
Everybody deserves the right to good oral health. By working together during National Smile Month, we can make this happen.
By being aware of what you can do to develop and maintain good oral health, you can change your life for the better. Let’s get brushing!
Why is brushing important?
Twice daily toothbrushing and daily cleaning between your teeth is important because it removes plaque. If plaque isn’t removed, it continues to build up and could lead to a number of oral diseases such as tooth decay and gum disease. Over time, this can lead to tooth loss.
Good oral health has many benefits, not only for your mouth but your overall wellbeing too. In recent years, gum disease has been linked with a number of general health conditions, including:
More research is needed to understand how these links work but there is more and more evidence that having a healthy mouth and gums can help improve your general health. This all starts with brushing.
“Toothbrushing goes far beyond keeping your teeth and gums healthy. It also improves your quality of life,” says Dr Nigel Carter OBE, Chief Executive, Oral Health Foundation.
